Re: [panamaorbust] Communications from Mexico and Central America
I visited your 'Communications from Mexico and Central America' page and found much of the information outdated, for those visiting
Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua one may now purchase a LADATEL card in retail outlets and stores or from TeleGua in
Guatemala in Quetzales, from CLARO (Telecom) outlets in El Salvador (USD) and Nicaragua Telecom (Cordobas) a card bought in
Guatemala works in all three countries and in all three countries one may call the US or Canada for the equivalant of 10 cents USD
per minute 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the public telephones which are everywhere in cities and large towns and at least one
in every small town. As well at the border crossings Guatemala to El Salvador look for the yellow Telecom phone on El Salvador side
the red TeleGua on Guate side, in case you need to make a call home while awaiting your car and dog papers..... Local calls to fixed
lines are 9 Cents per minute in El Salvador and about the same in Guatemala and Nicaragua, calls to cellular phones within
countries is 15-40 cents per minute depending the provider. Except for remote and rural areas you'll find the infrastructure in C.A.
excellent now, Skype has been downloaded in many Cyber Cafes for instant acsess and many boast ear phones and webcams for
every machine as well. Anyway, your source is really outdated since public faxes are hardly utilized any more, like travelers checks.
Get up to date. David..resident of El Salvador.
